While on our vacation road trip across the state of PA, my 1998 VW Jetta finally broke the 90,000 mile marker as soon as we went through the Fort Pitt tunnel during rush hour traffic. We were coming back to my sister’s house from the National Aviary and Pitt Zoo.

X-WingThis year, the family ventured down to Philly again to see another exhibit at the Ben Franklin Institute. Last year, all of us including both sets of grandparents went to see King Tut. This year was Star Wars. There was a lot of hype behind this exhibit and my boys are all about Star Wars. Especially Lego Star Wars.

The weather this day was perfectly mild. A nice early April chill in the air and the sun shining bright. It would of been a nice day to stroll the streets of Philly again (without kids tired legs of course).

YodaWe started the exhibit with a ride in the Milenium Falcon. We all climbed into a makeshift cockpit of the Falcon and enjoyed a quick 3d like presentation of the stars and galaxies that are out there. All hosted by C3-PO. This extra feature was ok but I was expecting more. Once again, I always expect more and this statement carries through most of the exhibit.

It is almost time to get one year older. This year is my 2nd anniversary of my 29th birthday. Or, otherwise known as my 31st birthday…ugh. It is about a month away and I decided to post my wants for my birthday. (Not like my family knows of this site or even know that Qwikstreet is my online moniker.) Maybe some rich online viewer wants to buy me something on my Amazon wishlist.

This year I want:

PDGA Membership (or gift certificate towards it)
Gamestop Gift Certificate (so I can buy Super Smash Brothers Brawl which comes out on my birthday)
Wii  Zapper, Wii Points Card, Nyko Wii Charging Station, or Nyko Perfect Shot Gun
Bottle of Bombay Gin

Well, Happy ’08; I guess. One more year down the tubes and time to start another dismal 365 days. Maybe this year will be better. There could be a lot of good for the world this year, or there could be a lot of bad news too. Why so cranky on the New Year? Hangover? No, but did have my fair share of beers at home and a Cuban cigar. The reason is because I am sitting at work. The only one in the office staring at my computer. Well, at least it is some quiet time from the normal work week.

My New Year’s Eve has drastically changed from 10 years ago. I brought in 1998 with a hell of a good time that would make your head spin. Lots of booze, partying, women, and other things. It would take me at least a day to sleep things off. Now, NYE after children is a totally different night. Last night, we decided to stay in and stay clear of all the amateur drunk drivers out there. We had a movie night and played new board games like Bingo and Battleship. We listened to loud music. We made pizzas and had ice cream. We lit off fireworks. We watched that poor old Dick Clark and had to explain to my 6-yr-old on why he sounded creepy. It was a night I enjoyed.

My resolutions this year I hope I keep. So I am aiming low or minimal.

1) Weigh under 200lbs. (Only way 208 now.)
2) Revive drinkinggamesfor.us from one of my archives.
3) Be more attentive to updating lvdiscgolf.org .
4) Put in new carpet throughout the whole house.
5) Fix up the kitchen.
6) Place 1st in a disc golf tournament.

Number 2 and 3 should be easy if I manage my online time properly. Number 4 should be done around tax return time.

Thank god! Christmas with kids is exhausting. Not only is there too much to do, too much money to spend, family to visit, cookies to bake, and toys to wrap. My living room looks as him Toys R Us fuckin’ threw up in it. Now I need to find room for all this stuff. Sounds like time for Old Toy Elimination 2007 – Winter Edition. I need to find room for Legos, Magnetix, Lincol Logs, Spidermen (plural), and more.

I got myself some cool stuff for Christmas. Not too much, but I tell people not to bother with me. I did get a new digital camera and freezer. Not too mention what I’m watching right now. Season 1 and 2 of The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Also, a dealer shoe to deal out 5 decks of cards, clothes, and a DVD game for 24.

Just glad the holidays are over. Christmas just gets more annoying as you get older. If it wasn’t for the kids, Christmas would just be another day in the winter. They had fun and that is all that matters.

Now it’s time to go out and buy what I didn’t get for Christmas which is usually a video game. The last time I got a game for XMAS was Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis. Every year I ask for a game, accessory, or gift card for EBGames and never got one. I don’t mind since I usually take care of all that myself. I find the deals and I spend my money.

Ah the holidays are always fun. It’s never a completed holiday without family crying, fire, fights, and/or disaster in the kitchen. Luckily, this year there was only one of the four in my Thanksgiving. We had a second turkey dinner on Saturday for my in-laws. I woke up early to prep the 14lb bord and preheat the oven. I set the oven and cleaned out the turkey. Ten minutes go by and I notice the oven still says 100 degrees. That doesn’t look right. The oven was still room temperature…joy.

So, 7 in the morning I am tearing apart my oven looking at wiring and a starter. I finally figured out what was wrong and got the part out that needed to be replaced. The hunt begins for the part. After calling 5 appliance part stores, no one carries the part and I had to order it. Now I have my in-laws heading into town, a 14lb bird, and no oven.

Time to put my grilling skills to the test. I decided to grill the bird whole. I placed it in the roasting pan and poured a can of beer in and covered it with aluminum foil. Three and a half hours on low heat and the meat was falling off the bones. The best turkey I’ve had. Luckily, everything came out alright and it looks like grilling the turkey is our new Thanksgiving tradition.

dvc00072.JPGHappy Halloween! I have always enjoyed Halloween and is probably my favorite holiday. I loved the candy, parties, costumes, and children and trick-or-treating. As a parent, I now get to show my kids the joys of Halloween. We get them cool costumes, take them to parades, hayrides, corn mazes, etc. No haunted houses yet (too young). Except the wife and I love scaring the piss out of them. You know the typical sneak up behind them, turn lights off, blah blah. Ah, the high pitched screams of a child.

We also take them trick-or-treating at at least two places. We usually go to my parent’s neighborhood on Friday night. Their neighborhood is really nice and you won’t get that cheap generic candy that you usually throw out. There are also no street lights in this development so it adds to the spooky effect. The only bad thing is the distance between the houses. It’s not far but I’m used to as a child a neighborhood with row homes on top of each other. This year it was pouring, but we still took them out. Can’t deny them free candy.

Anyways, this year I went with them to my in-laws house for trick-or-treat on a Sunday afternoon. I’m usually working or watching football to go up on that weekend. This year I did. I never went trick-or-treating in the afternnon, yet this is what my wife grew up on. Talk about totally lame. Ever went looking for houses with porch lights on in the middle of the day? Yeah, it sucks. It was like every 6 houses that were doing it. Sure its safe for the kids. Especially with Hell’s Angels roaming the streets, which I thought was weird for that area. I thought it was a total bust but the kids loved it, so thats all that counts.

All in all they had a good time.
Happy Halloween and don’t egg my house cause I wasn’t home to hand out candy.
