X-WingThis year, the family ventured down to Philly again to see another exhibit at the Ben Franklin Institute. Last year, all of us including both sets of grandparents went to see King Tut. This year was Star Wars. There was a lot of hype behind this exhibit and my boys are all about Star Wars. Especially Lego Star Wars.

The weather this day was perfectly mild. A nice early April chill in the air and the sun shining bright. It would of been a nice day to stroll the streets of Philly again (without kids tired legs of course).

YodaWe started the exhibit with a ride in the Milenium Falcon. We all climbed into a makeshift cockpit of the Falcon and enjoyed a quick 3d like presentation of the stars and galaxies that are out there. All hosted by C3-PO. This extra feature was ok but I was expecting more. Once again, I always expect more and this statement carries through most of the exhibit.

Well, Happy ’08; I guess. One more year down the tubes and time to start another dismal 365 days. Maybe this year will be better. There could be a lot of good for the world this year, or there could be a lot of bad news too. Why so cranky on the New Year? Hangover? No, but did have my fair share of beers at home and a Cuban cigar. The reason is because I am sitting at work. The only one in the office staring at my computer. Well, at least it is some quiet time from the normal work week.

My New Year’s Eve has drastically changed from 10 years ago. I brought in 1998 with a hell of a good time that would make your head spin. Lots of booze, partying, women, and other things. It would take me at least a day to sleep things off. Now, NYE after children is a totally different night. Last night, we decided to stay in and stay clear of all the amateur drunk drivers out there. We had a movie night and played new board games like Bingo and Battleship. We listened to loud music. We made pizzas and had ice cream. We lit off fireworks. We watched that poor old Dick Clark and had to explain to my 6-yr-old on why he sounded creepy. It was a night I enjoyed.

My resolutions this year I hope I keep. So I am aiming low or minimal.

1) Weigh under 200lbs. (Only way 208 now.)
2) Revive drinkinggamesfor.us from one of my archives.
3) Be more attentive to updating lvdiscgolf.org .
4) Put in new carpet throughout the whole house.
5) Fix up the kitchen.
6) Place 1st in a disc golf tournament.

Number 2 and 3 should be easy if I manage my online time properly. Number 4 should be done around tax return time.

Thank god! Christmas with kids is exhausting. Not only is there too much to do, too much money to spend, family to visit, cookies to bake, and toys to wrap. My living room looks as him Toys R Us fuckin’ threw up in it. Now I need to find room for all this stuff. Sounds like time for Old Toy Elimination 2007 – Winter Edition. I need to find room for Legos, Magnetix, Lincol Logs, Spidermen (plural), and more.

I got myself some cool stuff for Christmas. Not too much, but I tell people not to bother with me. I did get a new digital camera and freezer. Not too mention what I’m watching right now. Season 1 and 2 of The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Also, a dealer shoe to deal out 5 decks of cards, clothes, and a DVD game for 24.

Just glad the holidays are over. Christmas just gets more annoying as you get older. If it wasn’t for the kids, Christmas would just be another day in the winter. They had fun and that is all that matters.

Now it’s time to go out and buy what I didn’t get for Christmas which is usually a video game. The last time I got a game for XMAS was Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis. Every year I ask for a game, accessory, or gift card for EBGames and never got one. I don’t mind since I usually take care of all that myself. I find the deals and I spend my money.

I took my entire family including my parents and my in-law parents to see the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. It was a pretty cool exhibit. There was rooms and rooms of artifacts found in not just Tutankhamen’s tomb but those of his relatives. My oldest child (6 yrs old) enjoyed it for the most part but grew tired as most kids do when they figure out they have to walk. The kids more enjoyed the hands on stuff at the Franklin Institute like the Sports Challenge and the Space Exhibits.

Us adults enjoyed it though. The place was packed and I felt like cattle. I personally was expecting more King Tut stuff. Continue reading »
