You think I’m talking about Super Mario Galaxy? Nope, not really. I do love the game and spent lots of time getting stars and star bits and turning into Boo Mario. But, I’m talking about another recent release with Galaxy in the title. I think I spent more hours this week in this game then I have all of November on other Wii games, and that is quite a lot.

Geometry WarsI’m talking Geometry Wars Galaxies. Holy shit is this game fun and addicting. I spent many quarters back in my day on a game called Asteroids. Geometry Wars is Asteroids on steroids and LSD. It is an insane frantic action packed colorful arcade game that will keep my up many nights. Last night I was up until 3am playing the game and boosting the stats of my drones. The drones help you battle through waves and waves of shapes, black holes, and ships. My favorites so far are the turret and the collect drones. The game works well with the Wii Classic Controller. You can upload your scores to an online scoreboard. There are a few galaxies where my score is in the top 10. That I am sure will not last long, but I like the gratification when I see my name on the top leaderboard.

I strongly suggest this game. You can even download the XBLA version (Geometry Wars Evolved) to your DS for traveling. I have not been so addicted to an arcade style game this bad since Lumines for the PSP.

After months of either having the money and not finding one or finding one and not having the money, I was finally able to get one and one together to make two. So no more me or I or you (singular) but now its Wii. I actually got mine on Craigslist and didn’t pay an ass load of money. Instead I got a sweet deal. Normally you’ll see on Craigslist a Wii plus 5 Sports games for $400. Oh boy, they are playing off Wii Sports as 5 individual games. Only dumb parents not doing their research fall sucker to this.

Not me, I got the Wii (unregistered) and box, Wii Sports, Call of Duty 3, Chicken Shoot, and Resident Evil 4 with a guide for $300. Sounded to good to be true. Especially when the phone number listed was a 201 area code (Jersey City, Newark, etc.). I’m no where near there and I got lost once in Bayonne on a Friday night. Not the place anyone wants to be. Luckily, he moved down here recently and was local. Still, deal sounding too good and I never bought from Craigslist and went to some strange persons house with all them twenties. He was Asian so I took the chance. Not saying I would of ran if the person’s name was Jamal, Pedro, Jose, or Tyrone. I’m from Allentown my whole life and dealt with all types of people with no problems. I’ve had good history with Asians my whole life from neighbors to friends. (Sadly no Asian women as dates.) Back in the days of being single with a lot of time on my hands, I’ve played a few video game RPGs. (Never any of the boardgame, multisided dice, card games…I never had friends who were into it so I never was around those types.) A few years back I stopped playing them altogether. Some reasons were marriage, birth of kids, house, full time job and of course one ultimate pissed me off reason. That reason was Final Fantasy VII. Don’t get me wrong, awesome game. I was into the second disc when my PS1 memory card got corrupted and wiped out all my data. That card held my Madden data and FFVIII. Lets just say that memory card got a hell of a beating which included a hammer. That should teach me to buy a third party PS1 card.

I would of returned to FFVII right away but at the time of playing I didn’t spend a lot of time playing, Continue reading »

As a father 0f two with a mortgage and a car payment, money is tight and not as abundant to throw around like my bachelor years. However, I do what I can to earn some extra dough for my personal spending outside the budget plans the wife and I worked on. I’ve got two online shopping carts that are near down and will more than pay for one of two items I want this year. The first being a Nintendo Wii. Sadly, both shopping carts are for a friend and one for a family member. It’s hard to over charge those you know; otherwise I’d have a new TV as well.

Now that the money is almost in hand, I need to do step 2 of getting a Wii….and that is finding one. Every time I go to EB Games, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. I look for a Wii and have yet to see one sitting on the shelves. I found more Xbox 360 Elites and of course PS3s. I’m already starting to pimp out unplayed DS games to get my hands on some Wii and Gamecube games to prep my library.

So close.

Weeks and weeks later my attempts to log into a site called Destructoid worked. It all started earlier this spring when our new hire at work ended up being a writer for the above mentioned site, which deals in video games. Since I also wrote for game sites over the last 7 years, we had some sort of common ground. I always read the site but never signed up with an account. Now I did just to comment on one of his articles. The account was made and I was never able to log in with it. It only worked in the forums and not the blogs. At first I thought it was my work PC and the browser settings but it didn’t work on any of my computers. The new hire had no problem logging in with my machine.

So, I made a new account with a variation of my typical ‘qwikstreet‘ username and that also failed. The owner of the site recognized that the accounts were created. So, I finally made the new hire create an account for me on his computer stepping away from any qwik or qwikstreet and it worked…

My Dtoid Blog….like it matters.

It is time to give up one of the first games that I overplayed on my Nintendo DS, and of course it is another game a grown gaming man should not be playing…Animal Crossing Wild World. One of those damn addicting games that we played at work. A stupid time wasting, item collecting, fishing, bug catching game. I traded this game away on Trade Games Now for Zelda Minish Cap. Good score for both parties.

If you know me, as the guys at work do. You do not want me visiting your ACWW town. I leave trash hidden behind houses so you never find it. I teach my residents curse words and sexual and racial innuendos in hopes that they spread their vulgar hate to younger children. So, to seal this deal I decided to go all out and leave my town in shambles for the next gamer. Jump to after the break for the ghetto of K-TEL.

Well the lameness of cool as progressed even further today as I picked up the pre-order of Pokemon Diamond AND Pearl. One is for a fellow co-worker. The EBGames or Gamestop (whatever its called now) opened up early in one of our local malls. So there I was sitting in the parking lot observing the people congregating at the front entrance of the South Mall. I was quite surprised at the demographics. There was very few kids of youthful age in the group of 40 people. Of course they were accompanied by their parents. There was also parents by themselves picking it up for their kids (I’m assuming). Then there was the shocking number of the long dark haired basement dwelling young adults there to pick up their copy. I guess I somewhat fall into that category except for the long hair and the basement dwelling (I own the whole house basement and all). Continue reading »
