Today is the last day of the holiday season/vacation. Tomorrow is back to normal with school and work…oh joy. This was a very good holiday season for my family. This was our first Christmas and New Years in our new home. It was nice to make all the noise we wanted without disturbing the bipolar “roommates” we were once stuck with.
There was lots of parties here and everywhere. Lots of good food and drinks to be had by all. Some of the more notable foods would be the cookies from the women in my life. Wife and her gingersnaps, mom’s nut toccis, and my sister’s dark chocolate macaroons. Plenty of rich cheese and shrimp and my tender pork roast on new years. Let’s not forget about the wine, tequilla, and chocolate martinis.
Today we are killing Christmas and finding a home for all these gifts. So much Bakugan, pogo sticks, games, books, Hot Wheels tracks, science kits, and robots. Not to mention the new clothes that need to be washed and ironed.
Also need to come up with new resolutions for this year…
Oh and it was a sucking football holiday with no Irish!!!!

During my short stint as Santa Claus, I got to see what the popular gifts of 2008 were for the youth of America. The number one most popular gift without a shadow of doubt is the pink Nintendo DS. There was almost at least a dozen or so every night.
Girls:
1. Nintendo DS (pink)
2. Benderoos
3. Pixos
4. Cupcake Maker
5. American Girl Doll
6. Hanna Montana
Boys:
1. Bakugan
2. Xbox 360
3. trains/cars/trucks
4. bike
5. random video games
Honerable mentions to Sony PSP, Wii, red Nintendo DS, legos, and a real puppy.

*To start, I took a seasonal job at Lights in the Parkway dressing up as the big man of the season, Santa. Sure it is something a little out of character of me lately but there is always a reason behind something and that is my prize at the end. The pay I receive is for a new HD LCD and the rest is for carpetting the house and getting it ready to sell.
So far, there was a bunch of kids and one really hot college student. No one has peed on me and only a handful of kids cried. One litterally jumped out of his mom’s hands.
The popular toys so far is a pink Nintendo DS, Wii games, and Hannah Montanna. Who knows what tonight will bring…

I love getting a jump on the one holiday that just begs for you to committ suicide…Christmas. So much running around for family and friends, shopping, cold weather, relentless music piping from every store and office speakers. Tis the season of giving, giving all your money away. If the stores don’t get it, watch out for the bell ringers. The last two years I went shopping on Christmas Eve, but not this year. Granted, the last two years on Eve was not bad. There was barely a soul out there. However, I am not running into that issue again.
This year my kids are already done minus one more online order. My cousins are done. My wife is near complete. Her parents are near complete. My parents…still up in the air.
The bad part of finishing up so early (especially for my kids) is that there are so many days ahead where we can buy this item here and that one there, oh this is a good deal. Before you know it, a scaled down Christmas turns into an onslaught of toys.
As long as they get some cool toys for me to play with. Or maybe an awesome new game.

For Christmas, we got a new bag-less vacuum in the house. This is to replace the old one I had when I was a mere bachelor. So it must be about 10 years old or so. So it was time for a replacement. We have old carpet in the house that is slowly deteriorating and will be replaced this spring.
So, we run the vacuum for the first time shortly after Christmas. It is pretty cool to see the cyclonic power inside the cannister. It wasn’t cool when we were down with just the living room and dining room. The cannister was already full. I couldn’t belief all the stuff our old vacuum was missing. Which probably explains the respiratory problems my wife and kids were having. Since we started using it, the coughs and sneezes are minimal.
It’s nice not to buy bags anymore but we do have to empty and clean out our filth. It’s a little more labor in the end but it is worth it.

Thank god! Christmas with kids is exhausting. Not only is there too much to do, too much money to spend, family to visit, cookies to bake, and toys to wrap. My living room looks as him Toys R Us fuckin’ threw up in it. Now I need to find room for all this stuff. Sounds like time for Old Toy Elimination 2007 – Winter Edition. I need to find room for Legos, Magnetix, Lincol Logs, Spidermen (plural), and more.
I got myself some cool stuff for Christmas. Not too much, but I tell people not to bother with me. I did get a new digital camera and freezer. Not too mention what I’m watching right now. Season 1 and 2 of The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Also, a dealer shoe to deal out 5 decks of cards, clothes, and a DVD game for 24.
Just glad the holidays are over. Christmas just gets more annoying as you get older. If it wasn’t for the kids, Christmas would just be another day in the winter. They had fun and that is all that matters.
Now it’s time to go out and buy what I didn’t get for Christmas which is usually a video game. The last time I got a game for XMAS was Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis. Every year I ask for a game, accessory, or gift card for EBGames and never got one. I don’t mind since I usually take care of all that myself. I find the deals and I spend my money.
